COMPAK – EJ CHURCHILL 2 March 2024 & Results / Ranking Update

English Open – Compak – EJ Churchill 2024

Many thanks to all the shooters who attended the BICTSF English Open Compak Championships at EJ Churchill on 2nd Mar 2024.

Many thanks to Rob Fenwick and his team for an amazing championship. Considering that we had a full shoot of 144 shooters and how smoothly it all ran is a testament to the time and effort that Churchills put into this event. Apart from a couple of issues with a couple of traps, which were dealt with very quickly, enabled the shoot to finish as planned. Thank you Rob and all of your team a massive effort by all and very much appreciated by all of us.

The targets were set by Jamie Peckham. Jamie is a registered Compak Sporting course designer with FITASC and his intention was to set a course very much in the ‘European style of Compak’ and how it is shot abroad. This was done intentionally to allow the shooters, especially the ones vying for team places who have not yet experienced ‘European style Compak targets’ to have a taster of the type of targets they will see and shoot abroad.  The targets were technical but there was something for everyone and there were certainly birds there that would catch you out if you were not careful so thank you Jamie. We look forward to what you are going to entertain / test us with in April at the British Grand Prix.

Thanks also must go to the referees and their leader Phil Barnes. Refereeing Compak is never easy due to the pace of the discipline and having to make sure the system is used correctly is always stressful so well done to them for coping with it all as they did. I know that for some of the referees this was their first outing on the automated layouts so well done.

Many congratulations to the new English Open Compak Champion Phil Gray and also to all the category and class winners. A very competitive event. For those of you who love statistics

Our next shoot is at Orston Shooting Ground on March 16th and the title up for grabs is the UK Open. We look forward to seeing you all there. BICTSF would like to take this opportunity to thank Orston for agreeing to hold this shoot. Orston have held shoots for us in the past and also have been running a Compak winter series which has been well supported (Note Compak shoot this coming weekend). Dan and Emily are looking forward to welcoming you all to their ground.

Please note that the UK Open at Orston is the final shoot to determine the teams for the European Compak Championships in Portugal in May, so all to play for. If you did not shoot the British Grand Prix last August then you need this shoot to give you a ranking for the European Championships teams.

Orston is also one of the shoots to determine the teams for the World Championships in August in Hungary, so again if you have thoughts of representing and shooting for your country then please enter as the shoot again is limited to 144 shooters.

On a side note, please be aware that if you are planning on shooting the European Compak in Portugal there are some formalities regards importation of your gun (Please check www.fitasc.com for details of what to do).

Any queries about how the rankings work, please refer to the selection criteria on the BICTSF website or contact Mark Kettel (email: wendurfcr@yahoo.co.uk ) who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

See you all at Orston Shooting Ground 16th March 2024
